Best Practices in Strategic Communications Planning: A Focus on Social Media

This morning, I had the honour of presenting a workshop on Best Practices in Strategic Communications Planning: A Focus on Social Media to the Library of Parliament. The session was designed to explore opportunities for effectively integrating social media into strategic communication programs.

We had a lively discussion about what happens when we look at social media through the lens of strategic communications. This big-picture thinking created a shift for many communicators, as often social media channels seem to take on a life of their own, rather than being deliberately integrated into a strategic tactical mix.

It was great to learn from Parliamentary staff members about their experience in working on social media programs, and how they connect to the broader “natural habitat” of other communications channels in a strategic tactical mix.
